Cumnor warmed up for the new season with a friendly with Wheatley. Also on show were Cumnor's new signings--Kieran and Bradley.
Dave had worked hard during the close season to sign some new players and expectations were high that he had chosen well. Unfortunately as new players come in players must also leave. Ryan, Ollie and Sam moved on before the transfer window shut. Cumnor were also playing in their new kit, which was very similar to Wheatley's kit. Paul Lyon had a wonderful time trying to make out who was who!
Special thanks must go to Kev B who prepared the pitch for today's game. All the players appreciated the closely cut grass which made the game a pleasure for both sides.
Cumnor started very brightly. A cross floated in from Kieran found Luke. Luke rose and headered the ball into the back of the net. Kieran was looking very lively. Kieran had a couple of shots which just drifted past the goal.
Wheatley were a good footballing side who started to open up the defense. Robbie made a great save to keep the score at 1-0 to Cumnor. Robbie made 3 great saves in a row which even caused the Wheatley parents to applaud.
As the game moved towards half time, Cumnor were starting to take control. Fraser and Ben were linking up well. Harri hit the bar with a fantastic free kick. Mark, with his new hairstyle, made some important stops. Alex and Joel linked together well.
In the second half, Bradley was moved up front to link up with Freddie. Freddie had a great shot but the goalie saved. The ball came to Bradley, who fired it into the net. Cumnor were playing some delightful football. The 3rd goal was a cracker.Fraser and Luke linked together well. They found Freddie. He slipped it to Bradley. Bradley took it in his stride and hit a fantastic shot into the top corner. Cumnor had a few more opportunities but 3-0 it stayed.
Shaun is returning from Spain and will be available for Tuesday.
Hopefully Kev will have found out how to turn the lawnmower on!
