CUMNOR WIN BUT LUKE INJURED

Cumnor's win over Shrivenham was marred by the news that Luke suffered 15 stitches in his leg wound. With a couple of difficult games coming up, Dave may have to dip into the transfer market.
After the referee managed to locate Kev's lines, the game got underway.
Both sides attacked from the kick off. A crunching tackle ended Luke's involvement in the game. Luke and the Shrivenham player tried to win the ball. Unfortunately Luke stayed down after the tackle and was taken off. Robbie moved out of goal into midfield and Tim took his position up in goal. Fraser and Bradley were toiling hard to get an early goal. Both Kieran and Shaun had great shots saved by the Shrivenham goalkeeper. At the other end, Shrivenham had a couple of opportunities. Tim had to come off his line quickly to cut out a dangerous cross. Alex had a lot to do down the right and was making it very difficult for the Shrivenham winger.
The deadlock was broken with a fantastic goal. Henry broke up an attack. He found Fraser. Fraser crossed and Harri met the ball. With a fantastic touch he fired the ball into the net. It was 1-0.
Near the end of the first half, Robbie collected the ball in his own half. Robbie set off like a boy possessed and raced towards the Shrivenham goal. He then passed to Kieran but they were tackled and the ball was cleared. The first half finished 1-0.
Yet again, the second half showed a big improvement. It was all out attack. Mark was pushing forward and was linking up with Harri. Kieran was playing the Luke type role in midfield. He found Shaun. Shaun with a great first touch passed to Fraser. Fraser raced down the line and crossed. Freddie was first to the ball and made it 2-0. Henry stopped a attack. He beat a couple of players and passed to Fraser. He beat a couple of players and shot past the goalie into the back of the net. Shaun and Bradley linked up well and released Freddie and he made it 4-0.
Robbie had a couple of shots but were stopped by the defenders. Alex was holding the backline as Cumnor moved forward. Mark was roaming forwards in search of a goal. Kieran was next on the score sheet. A lovely floating shot left the goalie stranded and it flew into the back of the net. It was 5-0. Freddie made it 6 with a great finish. Cumnor had a few more opportunities but the Shrivenham goalie was in fine form.

MAN OF THE MATCH: KIERAN

A good second half performance. Radley are our opponents next week in another tough game.
Hopefully training will be less eventful than last week. Becky, Harri's mum, in an attempt to retrieve footballs from a neighbouring garden was bitten by a dog on her backside. As usual, some people have found the incident very humerous. Fortunately no damage has been done and the dog has put the whole nasty incident behind him.

CUMNOR WIN THRILLER

Probably our first big game of the season was against our big rivals: Didcot. Over the last couple of years we have been unable to win against them. Cumnor were under pressure to keep up their winning run.
Dave and Wayne took the boys for a warm up session before the game. After West Ham's surprise win over Newcastle, Kev was keen to bring the Italian approach to the team tactics. Therefore, Dave sent Kev to cut down overhanging branches from the trees until the game started.
The game started with attacking football from both sides. Didcot were looking more impressive with very sharp movements. Didcot seem to have an everlasting supply of tricky fast wingers. Mark, who breathed a sigh of relief when he heard that Alex Thomas had left, found himself up against another fast winger. Mark, as usual, got on with his marking and made it very difficult for the Didcot player. Both sides were looking dangerous. Robbie had to race off his line to make a last gasp clearance. Robbie was showing some great handling. Didcot started another attack and Henry managed to clear for a throw in. The throw in was taken and the ball was not cleared from the penalty box. A Didcot player fired the ball into the net on the near side. It was 1-0 to Didcot.
This was enough for Cumnor to step up a gear. Bradley jumped on a Fraser pass and fired the ball just over the bar. Ben, controlled the ball in midfield, and slipped the ball through to Freddie. Freddie, rounded the defender, but the goalie saved well. Mark passed to Harri on the right. Harri raced forward and found Luke. Luke and Harri tried a nice one-two and Harri just fired wide. Shaun broke out from the back and found Fraser. He found Freddie. He slipped it over the defender. Bradley timimg his run perfectly latched onto the ball and slipped it past the goalie. It was 1-1.
Didcot came back into the game. Kieran made a great tackle on the left to stop another attack. In fact, Kieran seemed to stop an attack in every part of the park.
Half time was 1-1.
Dave took the boys for a team talk at half time.
The second half started with a different Cumnor. They swept forward-attack after attack. Alex stopped a Didcot atttack. He controlled the ball and found Ben. Ben slipped the ball to Fraser. Fraser made a great run and crossed but the goalie cut out the cross. Kieran and Bradley both came close. As the game heated up, both sides were tackling hard. Shaun broke away on the right hand side. he passed a player. He then went into a bruising tackle with Sam, took the ball forward and with a shot/cross. The ball nearly slipped in at the near post. Didcot looked dangerous on the break. Henry, Alex and Mark cut out most attacks. One ball eluded the Cumnor defence, but Tim raced out and made a great save.
At the other end, Luke fired a fantastic shot from 18 yards. It was heading for the top corner. Wayne was already jumping for joy. The ball just missed by inches.
With minutes to go it seemed it was not going to be our day. Then ball was fired over the Didcot defence. Freddie raced onto the ball. He took it round the defender and raced to the bye line. He slipped the ball back to Bradley. Bradley with one touch controlled the ball. With his next touch, he fired the ball into the net. It was not an easy shot but it was made to look easy. It was 2-1 to Cumnor. A minute later the game was over. What a game!
The Cumnor players celebrated. Both groups of players looked shattered. It was an amazing battle. Cumnor deserved to come out on top due to their second half display.

CUMNOR KEEP UP THERE 100% RECORD

Cumnor were looking forward to visiting Summertown. Always an exciting game of football.
Unfortunately, Cumnor were not very happy with the pitch!
The pitch had a few problems: many points upset the purists:
1 You could actually see the white lines.
2 The grass was actually cut.
3 Where was the tree at the corner flag which threatened human life.
4 Worst of all the pitch was flat.

I am sure Dave will be talking to the Oxford Mail League about all these points.

Cumnor started with great confidence and it seemed only a matter of time before Cumnor took the lead. Fraser was looking very sharp and started a great move. He found Bradley with a great pass and he crossed to Luke who was unable to make contact. Freddie was looking full of energy and had released Fraser with a great back heel. Fraser found Bradley with an inch perfect pass and Bradley dragged it round the goalie but fired it wide.
Henry had to be very sharp to cut of a Summertown attack. Alex is growing into his position at the back. Rumours that Hull City are keeping an eye on him are probably true. Mark was his usual decisive self at the back.
Robbie had to be quick of his line on a few occasions.
Kieran is gaining confidence every game he plays.
Cumnor could not score. Bradley and Luke set up Freddie but his header went wide.
Shaun added an extra dimension on the right hand side. Shaun, in a more defensive role, looked very assured.
The first half finished 0-0.
Dave sent the boys out for the second half. He wanted a goal quickly.
Cumnor were getting closer. Harri was firing in some great crosses. Luke got on the end of one but fired wide. Ben came close as he received the ball in the penalty area. His shot was blocked. Fraser and Shaun linked up well to release Freddie but his shot was blocked.
Dave and the rest of the coaching staff were looking very worried. When Cumnor got the ball on target, the Summertown goalie was proving unbeatable.
Summertown were looking very dangerous on the break. Henry was showing great control at the back and was linking up with Harri on the left hand side. Tim made an important stop to keep Cumnor in the game.
Suddenly the breakthrough came. A Harri corner landed in the box. Summertown could not clear, Bradley pounced and fired the ball into the net. It was 1-0.
The second half seemed to be going on for ever. With minutes to go, Summertown were breaking on the left. The fast forward slipped the ball past Alex. Alex with a despairing tackle brought him down. The referee blew for a freekick. It was just outside the box. Everybody came back to defend. The Summertown forward fired in a great free kick and Tim saved well. Dave's heart started again and the final whistle was blown.

Next week we play our great rivals: Didcot. If Cumnor have title aspirations, this is an important test.

CUMNOR OVERCOME ROTHERFIELD

The first league game of the season saw the visit of Rotherfield. Very little was known about them so it was going to be an interesting game. Cumnor have high hopes of a successful season. Therefore a good performance was essential.
Cumnor went on the offensive straight from kick off. Fraser was his usual self. Picking up any loose balls and trying to unlock the Rotherfield defence.
Henry stopped a Rotherfield attack. He found Shaun. Shaun raced up the right hand side. He fired the ball to Bradley. Bradley raced forward and beat one player and shot just over the bar. Luke on the left forced a corner. Harri quickly took a short corner to Freddie. Freddie laid it back to Harri. He crossed in a dangerous ball into the 6 yard box. Luke was the first player to react and he slipped the ball into the net. It was 1-0 to Cumnor.
Cumnor started to look for the second. Kieran won the ball in midfield. He beat two players and found Harri. Harri tried a long shot but it went wide.
Rotherfield started to threaten. A through ball was intercepted by Mark and cleared for a throw in. Alex was using his speed to thwart any Rotherfield attack. With minutes to go in the first half, an opposing player raced in on Robbie. Robbie, alert to the danger, got ready to make a quick dash. Suddenly Luke made a fantastic last gasp tackle which cleared any danger. What a tackle.
The whistle was blown for the end of the first half.
In the second half, Rotherfield were looking more dangerous. Cumnor's defence was starting to look stretched. Mark was needing the help of Harri to stop some dangerous attacks. Henry and Alex were playing some good football to clear any danger.
At the other end, Cumnor got a 2nd goal. Ben won the ball in midfield. Kieran tried a long shot. It came out to Freddie who fired in a great shot. The goalie saved but could only parry the ball. Fraser, sharp as ever, jumped on the ball and calmly took the ball round the goalie and slipped the ball into the net. It was 2-0.
Just as we thought that the game was over, Rotherfield broke and scored with a great shot past Tim. Rotherfield were buoyed by this goal and went searching for an equaliser.
At the other end, Kieran broke up a Rotherfield attack. He found Luke. Luke raced forward and slipped the ball to Fraser. The ball was crossedinto the box. Bradley left his marker standing and fired the ball into the net . A great goal. It was 3-1 to Cumnor.
Mark slipped the ball to Henry. Henry lifted the ball over the defence. Freddie raced to the ball and took the ball round the goalie and made it 4-1 to Cumnor.

FINAL SCORE:

CUMNOR MINORS 4 ROTHERFIELD 1

SCORERS:
LUKE, FRASER, BRADLEY AND FREDDIE.

MAN OF THE MATCH: BRADLEY.
A great individual performance capped by a great goal.
