A victory today would keep Cumnor in the fight for the top of the league. Most people were expecting a Cumnor victory.
Good news arrived before the game with news that The Briggs Family have another little boy running around. Sarah gave birth on Saturday to a bouncy baby boy.
The game started and Cumnor were looking to take an early lead. Harri had an early free kick but the goalie saved well. At the other end, Robbie had to be quick of his line to stop a St Edmunds attack. The quick striker just got to the ball before Robbie. Robbie caught the strikers leg and both players went crashing. Fortunately the referee gave a free kick as it was just outside the box. This should have given Cumnor a wake up call as the St Edmunds attack were proving very sharp. Shaun was trying to get the midfield moving and Fraser was covering every inch of the park. Freddie and Bradley were working hard up front but without a great deal of joy.
Two attacks gave St Edmunds a 2 goal lead before half time.
Cumnor were shocked. Suddenly, Alex and Mark were under a great deal of pressure on the wings. Henry and Kieran were facing alot of long balls over the defence. Ben had to play further back to help out the defence.
The first half finished 2-0.
In the second half, Cumnor kept plugging away but it looked like it was not going to be our day. Another long ball through, yet again needed fast work by Tim. As Tim raced to cut out the ball, he tackled the attacker and got the ball. The referee deemed it to be a foul and gave a penalty. From my angle seemed very harsh. The penalty was taken and gave Tim no chance. St Edmunds made it 4 with a nice shot.
Cumnor never gave up but even when opportunities appeared we could not convert. On a bright note, Nathan made a very impressive debut. He came on and showed great composure. He made some great passes and he started finding holes in the St Edmunds defence.

We now have a break for 2 weeks. When we come back, Luke will be back as we fight to get back in the hunt for the league.

ROBBIE WINS MATCH WITH LAST MINUTE FREE KICK.
Marston Saints are top of the league and playing well.
Cumnor had a few problems before the start of the game. Bradley was suffering from a bug. Typically he wanted to play . Alex was suffering from a knock but ignored all advice to play. Dave is waiting for the birth of his sixth child--but Sarah was under strict instructions not to give birth until after the game. This was a game of two goalkeepers.
Both sides pressed for the first goal. Bradley , although wanting to collapse into bed, still looked dangerous. Freddie and Bradley were trying to link up. Fraser was looking very lively. Harri and Mark were proving very dangerous on the left wing. Cumnor were awarded a free kick 20 yardsout. Harri delivered a perfect ball but Bradley just failed to push it into the net.
Freddie broke down the left and the ball was put out for a corner. Harri guided in a great corner. The ball wasn't cleared properly. It fell to Fraser. Fraser controlled the ball and slammed the ball into the corner of the net. It was 1-0 to Cumnor.
Marston woke up and started to look very dangerous. Robbie had to come off his line very quickly on a couple of occasions to stop scoring opportunities. Marston had a couple of very quick players. Alex had to be very sharp to stop a couple of lightning attacks. Shaun was finding himself forced back to help Alex as Marston were attacking down the wings.
Henry was in the thick of it with some great tackles. Kieran stopped a certain goal with a great clearance. Mark made a great tackle to force a corner. Marston took the corner. Cumnor couldn't clear the ball and a Marston player fired the ball into the net. At the other end, Ben broke from the halfway line. He reached the 18 yard box and slipped the ball to Shaun. Shaun's shot was blocked.
Half time arrived.
Dave decided to keep Bradley on for the start of the second half. Cumnor showed great promise at the start of the second half and it was no surprise when Cumnor scored. Alex fired the ball down the right hand side. It was forced out for a throw in. Shaun passed to Freddie. Freddie gave the ball back to Shaun. Shaun crossed the ball into the box. Fraser raced in to meet the ball and with a great touch slipped the ball over the goalie into the net. It was 2-1.
Marston attacked straightaway. They broke down the right. A Marston attacker raced to the by-line and cut it back. Cumnor could not clear. It dropped to a Marston player. He scored. It was 2-2. Suddenly it was all Marston. Tim made some amazing saves. Probably his best save was from Fraser. The ball was crosed into the box. Fraser tried to header the ball away but under pressure from a Marston player it flew to the top corner of the Cumnor net. Tim pushed himself into the air and flipped the ball over the bar. A great save. Kieran made another great tackle to give Cumnor a reprieve.
Bradley could do no more as he looked exhausted. Robbie came on with fresh legs and nearly scored as he raced in on the goalkeeper. Unfortunately, the goalie cleared the ball.
With seconds to go, Cumnor got a free kick on the edge of the box. A heated discussion occured between Freddie and Robbie over who should take the free kick. Freddie saw the determination on Robbie's face and decided to let Robbie take the free kick. Robbie placed the ball. The wall lined up. Robbie prepared for his run up to the ball. With a large run up to the ball, Robbie was going to hit the ball as hard as he could. He ran to the ball. Robbie, with a delicate chip, lifted the ball over the wall. The ball headed towards the goal. The goalie reached for the ball. The ball hit the underside of the bar and slid into the net. The crowd erupted. The players jumped on Robbie. The Marston players looked devastated.
There was time for one more attack and the final whistle went.

Radley deserved to win. The boys gave 100% but hopefully normal service will be resumed next week against Marston Saints.
