ARDINGTON DENT CUMNOR'S TITLE HOPES

Games with Ardington are always tight affairs and this game was no different.
Cumnor had a bad start when Shaun did not appear. A couple of phone calls located Shaun at home relaxing thinking it was a late kick off. After getting the time wrong, the Morton's ended up at the Closes only to find the place empty. Wayne searched for someone to blame but his children were not impressed. It's good to know that the coaching staff keep in close contact.
The game started on a pitch that would even make Kev's lines appear straight.
Ardington started better and Robbie was forced to make a couple of stops. Henry was up against a fast forward and Alex was having a great game covering at the back. Cumnor nearly opened the scoring with a great header from Ben after a corner from Harri. The ball rolled against the post and came out. It landed in front of Fraser. Unfortunately the ball bounced awkwardly and Fraser hit the ball over the bar. Kieran was yet again playing with great skill. He started an attack with Luke. Luke passed the ball to Harri. He crossed to Fraser who forced a good save from the goalie.
Ardington forced a corner. It was fired into the box. It was headered towards the goal. Robbie stretched and parried the ball, but it was still heading towards the net. Mark with a great effort stopped the ball from going into the net. Freddie the cleared the ball.
With seconds to go, Ardington fired a great shot into the top corner. Robbie had no chance.
It was half time.
Straight away in the second half Cumnor were level. With great work from Luke and Freddie, the found Bradley. Bradley carried the ball forward and shrugged off a couple of tackles. Taking his time, he lined up the ball and fired an unstoppable shot into the back of the net What a goal! Bradley, who was playing by himself up front, looked full of confidence.
Nathan and Robbie came on to strengthen the defence.
Cumnor should have been 2-1 up but the goalie made a great save from Bradley.
Cumnor then seemed to loose their shape and lost 2 quick goals. Good saves from Tim stopped any more goals. Ardington knew their pitch well. They were firing shots from all distances as the slope gave extra power to the shot and made Tim's life difficult.
Luke managed a great solo effort at the end to make it 3-2. Unfortunately it was too late and the referee blew the final whistle.

ARDINGTON 3 CUMNOR MINORS 2

MAN OF THE MATCH: KIERAN

A good match. Cumnor lost their way for a 10 minute period in the second half. All credit to Ardington who took advantage and scored 2 quick goals.
The league can still be won but we must win our remaining games. The next 3 games will shape our season. Marston in the league, St Edmunds in the Oxford Mail Cup and Bourne End in the B&B Cup. Exciting times.
Before next week's game could everybody text Wayne to remind him of the location and time!
