CUMNOR FALL AT THE FINAL HURDLE
The first of Cumnor's triple assault was the B and B cup final. Our opponents were Windsor Royals. A team flying high in their league. Both sides were looking forward to a great game. The late kick off was difficult for both sides as the boys were keen to play and be back to finish their homework.
Cumnor put early nerves behind them and looked the most likely to score. Shaun and Ben were controlling midfield. Using Harri and Fraser on the wings they were causing big problems. A looped shot from Luke just went over the bar with the goalie stranded. At the other end, Robbie had to be quick of his line to make a clearance. The Cumnor back four stood up well to the Windsor forwards. Alex made some great tackles to stop numerous attacks. Mark started the next move with a great ball to Ben. Ben flew the ball over to Shaun. He found Bradley. Bradley carried the ball to the edge of the box and crossed but the ball was cleared.
The different styles of both sides was becoming apparent. Cumnor play a quick game which tends to overun teams. Windsor play a slower game with lots of passing.
Ben had a shot just over the bar.
At the other end, Windsor broke the deadlock. A great ball into the box was controlled by the Windsor attacker. He took his time and fired the ball into the net. It was 1-0 to Windsor. Cumnor were shocked but went on the offensive. A great Luke cross nearly found Harri's head to make it 1-1.
The half time whistle was blown.
The second half started with Windsor on top. They were looking very dangerous. Kieran had to be at his best to stop a couple of through balls. Kieran covered a lot of balls towards Tim holding off the attacker. Freddie made some great tackles to stop some dangerous attacks.
Windsor scored a second goal with a lovely move. A defence splitting pass left Tim with no chance.
Cumnor's coaching staff searched for an answer. If only they had a notepad like their opposite number.
Cumnor never gave up. Nathan started a lovely move on the left. He released Bradley who, just as he was about to shoot, the ball was blocked by a Windsor defender. Robbie was making his presence felt in midfield with some great tackles.
Windsor scored a third with a deceptive shot.
3-0 down but Cumnor did not give up. Freddie went up front. Freddie and Shaun linked up well with Luke. Luke controlled the ball and just shot past the post.
It was becoming obvious that our midfield was running out of steam All the boys had run and run but there was nothing left. Four weeks with no football was having it's affect.
Even so, Fraser did not stop. A great pass to Freddie stated another attack. Freddie was fouled and Cumnor gained a free kick. Kieran took the free kick and the ball bounced in the penalty box until it was cleared by a Windsor defender.
With minutes to go, Windsor made it 4-0.
The game finished 4-0.

A great game. After a months break with no training it showed in the end. Congratulations to Windsor who played great football and deserved to win the cup. A trip home after losing a cup final is difficult but even the most blinkered Cumnor supporter would admit that Windsor deserved the cup. Well played Windsor. See you next year!
Next week we play Ardington. A victory for Ardington gives them the league. A victory for Cumnor and a Didcot win keeps Cumnor in the championship.
