Cumnor arrived for the first game of the season without 2 big players. Bradley had suffered a knee injury but is hopeful to be ready for the start of the season. Luke is still in Spain. Real Madrid have made Luke a great offer but he feels Cumnor on a cold winters morning does hold its attractions.
Dave knew this would be a difficult game as this was the first get together since the Cup Final back in May! Four new players were introduced and the boys were struggling to remember each others names.
The game started with Cumnor off the pace. Bloxham looked the better side. Cumnor at the back struggled as Wrighty and Kieran had not played together before. By the time Cumnor started to play Bloxham were deservedly 2 goals up. Fraser started to come into the game. Freddie and Shaun started to find Fraser. Fraser came very close with 2 great shots. Jordi started to hold the ball up well. Adam was starting to find his feet. Mark played a no nonsense first half. The first half finished at 2-0 to Bloxham.
The second half started with an early goal to Bloxham. A tricky shot found its way into the back of the net.
Alex made a huge difference with his covering at the back.
Cumnor then controlled the 2nd half and an opportunistic goal from Robbie made it 3-1. Harri came back on and looked dangerous. Tim made an impressive catch from a difficult cross. Bloxham attacked and scored another fine goal.
Ibby was starting to cause problems in the Bloxham defence. Ben came close but the ball was cleared off the line.
Bloxham made it 5 and our boys looked very tired.
Cumnor Minors 1 Bloxham 5
Well done Bloxham.
Cumnor looked like a team that were playing their first game together.
The season starts next Sunday and fortunately we have a game on Tuesday against Faringdon.
Bloxham are a great addition to the Oxford Mail League.
