BRADLEY SAVES CUMNOR

Newbury were the visitors to Cumnor on a glorious sunny morning.
Newbury have just joined the league and reports have suggested that they are a very good side.
Cumnor received an early setback with the news that Luke was unwell. He is a big match player and Cumnor don't like playing without him.
The pitch looked fantastic and everything was set up for an amazing game.
Newbury started well and started probing the wings with some nice passes. Jordi and Mark had to work very hard to stop the two wingers. Robbie never had to make a couple of stops from long range efforts and he had to be quick off the line on a few occasions.
The first chance came to Cumnor. A long ball from Wrighty found Freddie. He left the defender and fired the ball towards the goal but the goalie made a great save. Bradley shot after Shaun won the ball but the ball was cleared. Alex had to make a great tackle at the other end to stop a dangerous attack. Alex 's speed was invaluable at the back as Newbury had some speedy wingers.
Fraser was combining well with Harri. He then made a great pass to Kieran. He looked up and found Bradley. He crossed the ball but the ball went wide.
Newbury impressed with some great football. They used the full width of the pitch.
Cumnor found themselves one down with a great goal. The ball came into the box, the Newbury player controlled the ball and slipped the ball into the net and made it 1-0. What a goal.
The first half finished 1-0.
Cumnor started brightly. Ben had a great shot over the bar. Shaun made a great run and knocked the ball just past the post. Fraser made a great effort but the goalie saved well. At the other end, Tim made a great reflex save from a fantastic shot. Cumnor pushed everybody forward. Wrighty had a great free kick saved.
It was not going to be Cumnor's day.
A crossed ball hit the post. It went for a throw in. The ball was thrown into the penalty area. Bradley jumped onto the ball and hit a great shot into the back of the net. It was 1-1.
There was only 5 minutes left.
Unfortunately Cumnor will be making an official complaint against the left winger of Newbury. It is very obvious that he had the ball attached to his boot with a bit of string. He made a great run beating 4 players before the ball ran out for a goal kick. A scary moment for Cumnor.
The Referee looked at his watch and blew for full time.

CUMNOR CRUISE TO VICTORY.

A great performance saw Cumnor come out comfortable winners against Summertown Stars.
Cumnor started well and took an early lead with a Luke header over the defence which found Freddie. He calmly slotted the ball into the net. A Shaun pass found Bradley who fired in a electric volley into the back of the net to make it 2-0.
Summertown suddenly came alive and started to play some great football. Wrighty had to cover at the back as Summertown were finding gaps in the defence. A cross into the box was met by Robbie who punched the ball clear. Luke had a opportunity for a shot but the ball slipped past.
The first half finished 2-0.
The second half started with both teams wanting to attack. A cross from Fraser was flighted into the box. Harri rose above the defence and headered the ball into the net. Ben won the ball in midfield and found Jordi. He hit a great shot but the ball hit the bar and slipped over.
Jordi had another opportunity minutes later but this time he curled a great shot into the back of the net. It was 4-0.
Mark and Alex combined to stop a attack. The ball was gathered by Fraser. He moved forward and hit a long ball forward. The goalie and Freddie came to meet the ball but it slipped into the net. It was 5-0.
At the other end a mix up in the Cumnor defence saw the Summertown attacker take advantage and slip the ball into the net.
Minutes afterwards Tim had to make a great clearance.
With minutes to go, Shaun made it 6 with a nice shot into the net.

CUMNOR MAKE HARD WORK OF VICTORY

Cumnor kept their 100% record this season with a hard fought victory over Wantage. A game which Cumnor dominated should have been over by half time but unlucky finishing kept the difference to one goal. An early set back before the game saw Kieran missing due to an ankle injury. Alex was back and slipped straight into the side in place of Kieran.
The game started with Cumnor looking for an early goal. Harri started the first serious move of the game. He controlled the ball and found Luke. He beat a player and crossed the ball into the 6 yard box. The ball landed at Fraser's feet. With the goal at his mercy, he hit the ball into the goalie's hands. After a week of Scottish football misses, hopefully Fraser's Scottish heritage would not affect Cumnor and Fraser during the game.
Wantage made their first attack and scored against the run of play. Wantage gained a free kick just outside the box. The ball was floated into the penalty area and was headed into the net. Robbie had no chance.
Cumnor went straight on the attack. Jordi stopped a Wantage attack. He passed the ball up the right hand side. He passed the ball to Shaun. He moved forward and beat his opponent and slipped the ball to Fraser. He raced into the box and fired the ball into the back of the net with a great shot. What a goal.
Wantage attacked but Robbie made a great save. Another attack saw the ball slipped past Robbie as he raced out. Alex followed the ball back and diverted it for a corner. A great stop.
Mark was not allowing Wantage any space on the right hand side. He made a great tackle and started another move. The ball was delivered forward and Bradley controlled it with great skill. He moved the ball to Freddie. He raced in on goal and lifted the ball into the back of the net. The goalie had no chance. It was 2-1.
Shaun hit the bar with an opportunistic shot.
Cumnor attacked again. Wrighty stopped another Wantage attack. He raced forward and found Harri. He crossed the ball and Luke tried to header the ball towards the net but it was cleared. It landed 20 yards out. Shaun hit it first time into the back of the net. Another great goal.
It was 3-1.
With seconds to go Wantage gained a free kick 25 yards out. The shot was saved with a great save by Robbie. He parried the ball but the Wantage player was first to the ball and pushed it into the net. It was 3-2.
The half time whistle was blown.
Cumnor changed tactics in the second half to a more defensive formation. Bradley played up front alone and nearly made it 4 with a great run but the ball was cleared just as he was about to shoot. Ben and Adam linked up and released Luke. He found Adam but he was tackled.
Wantage attacked and a cross ball was caught well by Tim under close attention from the Wantage attacker.
Jordi and Alex made some great tackles. With seconds to go, Freddie fouled the Wantage attacker on the edge of the box. Fortunately the free kick was fired into orbit.
The referee looked at his watch and blew for full time.
A great game.

CUMNOR MINORS 3 WANTAGE 2

MAN OF THE MATCH: JORDI.

Cumnor made hard work of a game that should have been over by half time. Still a great performance. What can we say about Wantage? It was a bit of trial to play this team.

CUMNOR WIN BUT HENLEY MAKE IT DIFFICULT.

Cumnor started their league campaign with a game against Henley. Newly arrived from the B league, Henley were ready for a real tussle.
Cumnor were giving their close season signings home debuts. Dave had been busy and had made some great signings. Adam and Ibby were signed from Florence Park and Jordi was signed from Quarry. Wrighty, well known to the Cumnor boys, came from Ardington. Only Alex was missing as he was still on holiday. It is Cumnor's strongest squad ever with some great players. The coaching staff have not changed. New contracts were offered and accepted by the coaching staff. Supposedly Kev was being sought by other clubs due to his unlimited football knowledge. Rumours had started to circulate early in the summer. Unfortunately for Kev it became apparent that it was he who started the rumours. Eventually, once the truth became known, Kev was offered a revised contract which involves Kev paying Cumnor lots of money to coach the team. He won't try that again.
It has been decided by Robbie's mum, Becky, that more mums should help on the match day shop. So the crowd were treated to the sight of mums doing their best to avoid Becky as she tried to arrange a rota system. I think it proves we have the fittest mums in the league as they effortlessly did laps round the park to stay one step ahead of Becky.
The boys were playing in their new strips and looked fantastic. Colin, Robbie's dad, sponsored the strips. Well done Colin.
The game started with flowing football from Cumnor. Wrighty and Jordi fitted well into the defence. Fraser started the first serious move of the game with a run up the right hand side. He beat a couple of players and crossed the ball and Shaun fired a shot but the goalie saved well. Freddie had another shot which the goalie tipped by the post. A long ball over the Henley defence saw Bradley just fail to connect.
At the other end, Kieran made a great tackle that pushed the ball out for a throw in. Wrighty, who plays a more roving role than Henry, made a great tackle and won the ball. he beat a couple of players and passed the ball to Harri. Harri was tackled and the ball went out for a corner.
Jordi was up against a very fast winger but he was in total control. He stopped attack after attack. I think Jordi prefers playing at the back as opposed to centre forward.
Fraser yet again started another move. Wrighty controlled the ball and crossed into the box. Freddie was first to the ball and headered it into the net. It was 1-0. Straight away Cumnor made it 2. Shaun had a shot blocked and Luke was first to the ball. He rifled the ball into the back of the net with a great shot. Cumnor were in control.
Henley were awarded a free kick 20 yards out. A high swirling shot landed in the back of the net just out of Robbie's reach. It was 2-1. Another attack saw Robbie make a great stop. Then Robbie had to be quick off his line to clear another ball.
Henley found new energy but 3 quick goals made it more comfortable than it was for Cumnor. Mark made a great through ball to Harri. He rounded the keeper and from an impossible angle slipped the ball into the net. What a goal. Bradley made it 4 with a great individual effort. Freddie made it 5 with a great finish.
The first half finished 5-1.
Dave made a few changes at half time. Adam and Ibby played on the left hand side and it showed that they had played together before. They split the defence with a couple of passes. Adam nearly scored but the ball was blocked by a defender. Ben made a great challenge. He the fed the ball to Bradley who left his marker and slipped the ball into the net. It was 6-1.
Luke was controlling midfield and was linking up well with Adam.
Henley had nothing to lose so they threw their players forward. A great shot from a Henley attacker just went over the bar. Another move saw Tim make a geat save but the rebound found a Henley attacker who fired a great shot into the net. It was 6-2.
Chances were at both ends. Fraser made a great run and hit the post. Robbie raced forward but his shot was blocked.
The game finished 6-2.

Cumnor Minors 6 Henley 2

Man of the Match: Freddie

A great start to the season. Over the last couple of seasons Cumnor's strength has been their ability to overwhelm their opponents. Today Cumnor played some great football. They attempted to pass the ball from defence to attack. It was great to watch. Great debuts from the new boys. Wrighty has always been a pain to Cumnor when he was at Ardington. Now we have the benefit of his great enthusiasm and skill. Jordi is an accomplished player. He is not scared to pass the ball out of defence and does not get flustered. Adam and Ibby. It's very difficult to separate them. They play the same way and they link up with great passing. For 10-15 minutes they monopolised and controlled the left hand side.
As news filters in of Radley's win against Bloxham, it is going to be a very hard and exciting season.
