CUMNOR CONTINUE UNBEATEN RUN
Both sides were looking forward to a great game of football. Didcot after beating Radley last week were full of confidence. Dave looked calm, but decided on an attacking formation.
Neil , who was on Tuck Shop duty, arrived early. So early that he decided to put the nets up. Nets are supposed to stop the ball but his first attempt had as many holes as the Hull City defence. He finally got the net up and then moved onto his Tuck Shop duties.
Cumnor started the game slowly. The first ten minutes had no team on top. The midfield were fighting for every ball. Luke, now fully fit, was using his strength to win midfield. He started the first move of the day with a great pass to Shaun. He controlled the ball and tried to find Bradley. It was cut out and Didcot started a counter attack. A ball over the defence was cleared by Mark. It ended up with Harri. He linked up with Shaun and found Fraser. He started a run up the left hand side and as he approached the penalty box hit a fantastic shot. The goalkeeper expecting a cross was beaten at his near post. What a goal! Over the last couple of weeks, I have mistakenly given Fraser's goals to other players. Only one player could score a goal like this.
Cumnor started to play with confidence. Didcot are always blessed with fast wingers. This team are no different. Attacks were started on both sides. On the right side, Jordi never let a ball past him. Jordi was signed at the start of the season and has been a revelation. He had to be very sharp and made some great tackles. On the other side, Mark had to make a great clearance to stop a dangerous attack.
Didcot won a free kick 25 yards out. Cumnor formed a wall. It was fired towards the Cumnor goal but Robbie saved well.
Cumnor attacked looking for the second. Wrighty, who seems to be everywhere, cleared the ball to Shaun. He found Freddie who slipped past a defender. He passed to Harri, who guided it past the goalie. Unfortunately, it hit the post and was cleared.
On another Didcot attack Kieren made a great interception. He looked for Bradley. He was forced out wide and his pass was knocked out for a corner.
Harri took the corner and as it landed in the box, a Didcot player handled the ball. It was a penalty.
Wrighty stepped up to take the penalty. He hit the ball to the left. The goalie dived the right way but the penalty was too strong and it landed in the back of the net. It was 2-0 and the half time whistle went.
Dave sent Cumnor out to finish off the game. Freddie and Luke came close. Didcot looked very dangerous as they attacked in numbers. Alex never missed a ball as he cut out every attack on the left side. As he cut the ball out, he fired the ball forward. It was slipped to Bradley who turned and fired a great shot into the back of the net. What a goal!
At the other end Didcot still were looking for a way back into the game. A through ball headed towards the corner flag. Tim raced out his goal and slipped past one player and cleared the ball. What confidence.
Ibby and Adam came on to do their usual double act on the left side. Didcot struggled with the skillful play from the duo. Alex freed Adam who raced down the wing. He crossed and Luke headered the ball into the back off the net. A great goal!
Maybe the best goal came last. Wrighty and Kieran linked up and passed the ball to Freddie. He flicked the ball to Adam. He looked up and saw Ibby. He slipped the ball to Ibby. He controlled the ball and hit a great shot into the back of the net. It was 5-0.
Robbie with his usual enthusiasm tried his best to make it 6 but it stayed 5.
The referee blew for full time.
CUMNOR MINORS 5 DIDCOT 0
[LUKE, BRADLEY,IBBY, WRIGHTY AND FRASER]
MAN OF THE MATCH: LUKE. Back to his best, after injury, with a great performance.
What a great game. Cumnor were fantastic and deserved the victory. It is always nice to beat Didcot who are a great side.
Next week we play Bloxham. Our last game against them ended up an easy victory for Bloxham.
A makeshift Cumnor side did not bode well for the season ahead. It was Jordi's first game for Cumnor and he played up front by himself. As he normally played at the back, he wondered what he had let himself in for. That seems a long time ago.
Neil finished his stint on the Tuck Shop. Feedback seemed to indicate that he should stick to being a linesman. Short changing and cold tea were a few of the complaints that surfaced at the end of the game. Didcot parents said they would bring their own drinks next time.

BLACKBIRDS SWEPT ASIDE BY CUMNOR
With the rain easing, the Cumnor pitch was passed playable. The visitors were Oxford Blackbirds who were struggling to make their mark in the league.
The pitch looked good but centre spots and 18 yard boxes were not visible. Centuries of tradition were swept aside by Kev as he decided that these white lines were not particularly necessary for a game of football. Fortunately common sense prevailed and Kev raced off to get his paint.
Cumnor probably scored the quickest goal in our teams history. The ball was swept forward and Bradley raced onto the ball. He moved into the 18 yard box and hit a great shot. The goalie managed to parry the ball but the ball ended up in the back of the net. It was 1-0.
Blackbirds were shocked but dragged themselves back into the game. Harri was playing well at left back. He was linking up well with Adam and Ibby. Adam made a great run on the left hand side. As he was about to shoot the ball was blocked and went for a corner.
Harri took the corner perfectly into the penalty area. Fraser and Shaun both had attempts cleared. Fraser was making lots of runs up the right. He had one shot just slip by the post.
Kieren started the next move with a great pass to Fraser. He raced up the right and crossed. Adam shot but the goalie saved well.
Blackbirds were starting to look dangerous. A through ball was met by the Blackbirds attacker. Robbie came racing out and made a great save. Alex had to be quick off the mark to make a great clearance. Jordi was being stretched on the right but was coping well.
Near the end of the half Cumnor made it 2-0. A ball was crossed in. Shaun controlled it with a nice touch. He the slipped it through a group of players to Ibby. As the Blackbirds players looked for offside, Ibby calmly slipped the ball into the net. The ref blew for half time.
The game was quickly killed off by a double strike. Shaun slipped the ball to Freddie. He passed to Bradley who slammed a great shot into the roof of the net.
Bradley then slipped the ball to Freddie who knocked the ball past the goalie to make it 4.
Mark came close with a long range effort which slipped past the post.
Fraser, showing no sign of his back injury, made one of his trademark runs and made no mistake with a great header.
Wrighty had to make some clearances as Oxford looked for a way back. Cumnor were awarded a free kick just outside the box. Wrighty took the kick but it just slipped past.
Tim made a great stop as Blackbirds applied some pressure.
Harri capped a fine performance with the sixth.
Robbie made it 7 after the goalie could not hold the ball and he pounced on the ball and tapped it into the net. A Robbie header just slid past.
The game finished 7-0.
MAN OF THE MATCH:HARRI
Next week we play our biggest rivals-Didcot. Last year we got fed up seeing each other as we met 4 times. This will be our first encounter of the season.
