Both sides had trophies won already this season. Both wanted the Oxford Mail Cup.
Straight from the KO produced the first goal. Harri and Luke linked up to release Freddie. He moved into the penalty box and slipped the ball past the keeper to make it 1-0.
Newbury pushed forward and made it 1-1 with a fantastic goal. A cross was met by the Newbury attacker and he slipped it past Robbie into the back of the net. Robbie stood no chance.
The game opened up. Cumnor worried about the Newbury wingers. Jordi and Mark made some great tackles to stop attacks but they always looked dangerous.
Wrighty was having a blinder at the back. Was this the same player that was carried off last week. It does seem that playing on the X Box 360 does help knee injuries.
Kieren made so many great tackles but one stood out. He stopped a Newbury attack. He flew the ball forward. Shaun controlled the ball and slipped the ball to Freddie. He took one touch and slipped the ball over the goalie into the back of the net. It was 2-1.
Cumnor held out and it finished 2-1 at half -time.
Cumnor delayed the start of the second half by taking there time to leave the changing rooms. Either Dave was giving a lengthy half-time talk or he was trying to remember all his childrens names.
Straight from the KO Fraser controlled the ball. He raced forward and found Freddie. He raced into the box and fired a shot towards the net. The goalie made a great save but Harri jumped in to hit the ball into the back of the net. It was 3-1.
Alex had to make a great tackle to keep Newbury out.
Newbury attacked and the tricky no 12 made a great run. He raced into the box and shot. Tim raced out and made a great save.
Ibby and Adam linked up well to force a corner. The corner was taken. The ball ended up in the box. Luke with a great back heel made it 4-1.
The game must be over. Newbury did not give up. They attacked but met a resilient Cumnor.
The game ended 4-1 for Cumnor.
CUMNOR MINORS 4 NEWBURY 1
[FRED 2, HARRI AND LUKE]
Well done to Cumnor. What a performance. Whatever Dave finds down in Devon, I don't think it will ever match the Cumnor Minors 2009-2010.
A great side that never give up. The players won it for Dave.
Congratulations to Newbury for a great campaign. They won the B&B and pushed Cumnor in the cup and league. Also they were very gracious in defeat.
