10 MAN CUMNOR WIN WITH LAST MINUTE PENALTY

A last minute penalty gave 10 man Cumnor victory in a tense match.
Cumnor came into the game with only 10 fit players. Harri was ill but was dragged out of his bed to fill in the gap at left back. He lasted just till after half time but had to be taken off as he could no longer walk. Didcot are a good team so it was not a game that we wanted to play with ten players.
The game started and Didcot used the big kicks from their goalie to put Cumnor under pressure. Kieren and Wrighty found themselves very busy in the middle of the defence. Jordi made some great runs to relieve pressure on the back four. Harri was doing a great job against a tricky winger but his energy level was nearly zero. Didcot had a couple of shots which were not far away. Joe was doing his best to open some doors on the left and made a great pass to find Freddie. He raced in on goal but was brought down in the box for a cast iron penalty. The referee waved play on.
Bradley had another run but he was well tackled. Fraser made a great run on the right and released a great cross. Unfortunately no-one was on the end of the cross. Robbie had to make a difficult catch but apart from that had little to do.
The first half finished 0-0.
The second half saw Cumnor down to ten men with Bradley up front.
Cumnor still attacked but unfortunately it left gaps at the back. One cross saw the ball hit rebound of Jordi and was cleared by Robbie.
Shaun and Luke were controlling midfield but a few chances came to nothing.
Again another Cumnor attack saw Freddie brought down again in the box. Yet again no penalty.
With minutes to go, Joe controlled the ball in the penalty box. As he was about to turn, his legs were taken from him. At last the referee gave a penalty.
Wrighty wanted to take the penalty. He steadied himself, and fired a great shot into the corner of the net. It was 1-0.
The referee blew the whistle.

Cumnor Minors 1 Didcot 0

A great game. Cumnor overall deserved the victory. Next week hopefully we will have 11 players. Our boys never gave up even though they were obviously undermanned but they never stopped running.
Best of luck to Didcot in the B&B next week.
