CUMNOR SCORE LAST MINUTE EQUALISER TO PUSH TIE INTO EXTRA TIME.

Luke Watkins scores a last minute goal to push this enthralling tie into extra time.
Newbury and Cumnor Minors playing each other in the preliminary round of the B&B Cup doesn't sound right. It is a tie which should grace the latter stages of the Cup.
Both teams started well. Cumnor were playing against the wind. The first couple of chances came Cumnors way. A great cross from Luke W landed at Shaun's feet. He controlled the ball and fired the shot towards the back of the net. Unfortunately it was blocked and the ball went just over. Joe and Freddie linked up well on the left side. Freddie was pushed out to the byline and the ball went wide.
Newbury then took the lead with a long shot which gave Robbie no chance as he was unsighted.
It was 1-0 to Newbury.
Jordi stopped the next attack. He then moved forward with the ball and beat a couple of players and found Luke T. He placed a perfect ball to Fraser. He crossed and a shot from Joe was saved by the Newbury goalie.
Harri was finding lots of room on the left hand side. He made a great cross but the ball was cleared.
The first half finished 1-0.
Cumnor came out fighting in the second half. Kieren and Wrighty stopped every attack. Kieren controlled the ball. He found Luke W. He made a great pass to Fraser. He raced into the box and cut the ball back to Joe. He turned and shot. The goalie made a great save.
At the other end Robbie had to be quick of his line to make a great stop.
From a Cumnor corner, Luke had a header which just slipped past the post.
At the other end, Newbury should have made it 2 but the ball was cleared of the line by Kieren.
With a minute to go, Cumnor were awarded a free kick 25 yards out. Wrighty took the free kick. He lifted a great ball into the 6 yard box. The ball rolled through to the goalie. Just as the goalie was about to grab the ball, Luke W slipped his foot to touch the ball into the back of the net. It was 1-1.
The referee blew for full time.
It was now extra time. Joe had an early shot just over the bar. Then Harri made a great clearance. Luke T found Joe. He found Freddie who fired the ball into the net. It was 2-1.
Jordi set up Fraser. He raced in on goal but was brought down. It was a penalty.
Wrighty took the penalty but it just slipped past.
It was 2-1 at half time.
Freddie made it 3-1 with a great finish.
With minutes to go, Cumnor got another free kick. Wrighty grabbed the ball before anybody else could take it. He fired a great shot into the top corner. A great goal and it was 4-1.
The final whistle was blown.

CUMNOR LEAVE IT LATE

Cumnor kept their 100% record with a dramatic winner with minutes to go.
Marston is always a difficult game and they had added to their squad over the summer break. Adam was back for his first game off the season and he started on the bench. Cumnor suffered a shock when we heard the news that Tim had broken his hand and requires an operation. Tim will be out for 8 weeks. Apart from not making great saves, he was worried how he was going to hold onto his XBox controller. Bradley was also injured. Luke W was back to strengthen midfield.
Joe, who has played all over the park for Cumnor, now started up front. The only position he is not keen on is goalkeeper.
Cumnor started well and looked the most likely to score. Fraser made a great run up the right hand side. He made a great cross. Shaun met the ball and fired a first time shot over the bar. Luke T was winning the ball well in midfield. Enjoying playing with Luke W, he was starting to pass the ball with great confidence. He moved the ball out to the right. Joe and Fraser linked up well. The ball was crossed and Luke W's shot was blocked by the defender and the ball went out for a corner. Marston's impressive goalie made a great stop from a Joe shot.
At the other end, Marston's no 9 was causing havoc in the Cumnor defence. Alex was making a lot of desperate tackles to keep him at bay. He did release a great ball into the box but Kieran made a great clearance. A short pass back forced Robbie to make a great saving tackle. Jordi started the next move. He found Luke T who passed to Fraser. The ball arrived at Freddie. He then passed back to Fraser. He slid the ball to Joe. He then turned and fired the ball into the corner of the net. What a goal?
Luke W had a great shot which just slid by the post.
At the other end, Wrighty made a great clearance to stop another attack. With minutes to go Marston equalised. A great defence splitting ball found a minute of indecision in the Cumnor defence. The attacker was sharp and slid the ball into the net.
The second half started with Marston the sharper. A great shot beat Robbie and hit the bar. It came down and it was cleared by Wrighty. Cumnor slowly came back into the game. Adam was using the width of the park to make a nuisance of himself. He started another attack. Shaun passed the ball to Freddie who shot past. Luke W and Luke T linked up well to release Joe whose shot was saved by the goalie.
Then Marston were awarded a penalty. Shaun was penalised for pulling the opponents shirt. Both sides were slightly confused about the penalty as, if there was an offence, it was well outside of the box.
Anyway Robbie did what he does well. He steadied himself for the penalty. The penalty was taken and Robbie made a great save.
With 5 minutes to go, Freddie made a great run into the box. He then slipped it by the approaching goalie. Cumnor were 2-1 up.
The game was over. Unfortunately no-one told the Marston boys. A great shot from the Marston attacker hit the bar. It came back out and it was slipped into the net by another Marston player. That Marston player had been offside.
The referee blew his whistle. It was 2-1 to Cumnor.

MARSTON SAINTS 1 CUMNOR MINORS 2

A great game. This season is going to be the toughest ever. I can not see a weak team in the league.
Cumnor are getting back to their best. A great performance.

CUMNOR START WITH A STUTTER

Cumnor hosted Oxford Blackbirds in the first game of the season. Cumnor had impressed in pre-season so hopes were high that they would start with an impressive display.
Cumnor had suffered problems before the game. Alex, Luke W and Harri were all ruled out of the game. Bradley and Kieren were playing with injuries.
The game started with Blackbirds looking dangerous. The long ball over the top was creating lots of problems. Tim made a great finger tip save to push the ball by the post. Cumnor were looking very jittery. Our back four were getting caught out with the quickness of the Blackbird attackers.
Cumnor started to come into the game. Luke was starting to win the ball in midfield. He slipped the ball to Fraser who released Freddie. He left his defender and slipped the ball past the Blackbirds goalie. Cumnor had a few more chances. Joe and Bradley linked up to release Bradley. His shot was deflected for a corner. Shaun had a header just slip past the post.
Jordi made a clearance after a Blackbird attack. Robbie controlled the ball and found Fraser. The ball was crossed over and Shaun slipped the ball into the net to make it 2-0.
Blackbirds nearly scored just before half time but Wrighty made a great interception.
The first half finished.
Cumnor came out in the second half and started to play some better football. Kieren and Jordi started to hold onto the ball and look for players. Luke and Robbie started to win the balls in midfield. Joe was racing up and down the left side trying to start attacks. Freddie and Bradley both came close to scoring. At the other end, Tim made two great saves before he was finally beaten by an unstoppable shot. It was 2-1.
Cumnor suffered an uncomfortable last couple of minutes before the referee blew for full time.

CUMNOR MINORS 2 OXFORD BLACKBIRDS 1

Not a great display by Cumnor. We know how well we can play and next week against Marston will give us an opportunity to show how well we can play.
A great display from Oxford Blackbirds. This should be a exciting season in a great league.
