WANTAGE DENT CUMNOR'S TITLE HOPES

Cumnor were meeting Wantage in a top of the table clash. They talk about 6 pointers and it think it applied to the game today.
Jack Alexander had left Wantage to join Liverpool and Cumnor felt that this had weakened Wantage. If anything, Wantage looked more balanced and started the better side.
They had a couple of early chances but Robbie was in top form and made a couple of saves.
Cumnor started to come into the game. Declan and Joe linked well to release Freddie. He slipped past Robbie and his late challenge brought down Freddie. It was a penalty. Wrighty lined up for the penalty. Normally Wrighty will place the ball into the back of the net. This time it drifted over the bar. Hard luck.
Bradley set up Fraser on the right. He left his defender and crossed but his header went wide.
At the other end, Wantage in their next attack did everything but put the ball into the net. The ball was saved by Robbie three times, as it hit the bar and various other players, until it was cleared by Alex. Kieren made another great tackle to stop another attack.
Shaun started the next move. He passed to Joe who passed to Bradley but he was closed down very quickly.
At the end of the half, Robbie made a world class save from a great header from the Wantage attacker.
Half time whistle was blown.
Cumnor scored early in the second half. A wonder strike from Jordi from 25 yards left the goalie with no chance. It was 1-0.
Luke and Fraser linked up well. Fraser moved forward and hit a great shot which hit the bar.
Then two lapses in concentration saw Wantage draw level. A great header from Robbie gave Tim no chance. Then Tom White silenced the Cumnor fans with a great strike. It was 2-1.
Cumnor pushed for an equaliser. Luke had a great header just go wide. The referee blew for full time.

CUMNOR MINORS 1 WANTAGE 2

Well done Wantage. Cumnor had one of their quieter days. Wantage came out fighting and pressed Cumnor, especially in midfield.
Being in a successful side means that every game is tough. Even though we lost, it was still an exciting game and great to take part in.
Fortunately the games keep coming. We play Didcot in the cup next week. Another tough game.
