CUMNOR HIT TOP FORM

Cumnor's opponents today were Abingdon. Wayne and Shaun were on holiday and were missing from todays game. Kieren was also missing. Alex was on holiday at Centre Parcs but came back to play today. Otherwise everybody else were available.
Cumnor took the game to Abingdon but were not making many chances. Good passing football was being played by both sides. Luke, playing at centre half, made a couple of early interceptions.
As the game progressed, both sides started to make some chances. Robbie had to be sharp of his line to clear a dangerous ball.
The first goal came when Adam won the ball in midfield. He made a great through pass to Freddie. He carried the ball forward. His first shot was save but he slipped the ball into the net with his second attempt.
Bradley started the next attack. He controlled the ball and hit a great pass to Fraser. He moved into the box and crossed. Alex couldn't rise high enough to head the ball back into the box. Luke made a great pass to Freddie. He beat one player and shot past the goalie. It was 2-0.
Next Wrighty found Jordi. He took the ball forward and fired just past the post.
The move of the first half made it 3-0. Alex gathered the ball in his own half. He moved into the opposing half and fired of a great pass over the top of the defence. Both the goalie and Fraser raced for the ball. Fraser got their first and lobbed the ball over the goalie. A great and brave goal.
It was 3-0 at half time.
Robbie moved to centre half and Luke moved into midfield. Immediately Cumnor stepped up a gear. Joe won the ball in midfield. He slipped the ball to Bradley. He took a couple of steps and hit an unstoppable shot into the back of the net. What a goal.
Then a cross from Fraser was saved by the goalie. Declan was quicker than the goalie. He slipped the ball into the back of the net. It was 5-0.
Bradley made it six with a great opportunist goal. The goalie passed the ball to Bradley and he delivered the ball into the back of the net.
Joe capped a great performance with a great shot from 20 yards. The goalie had no chance.
It was 7-0.
Abingdon pushed forward and Tim had to make a great stop.
Cumnor made some great defence splitting passes. Declan came very close to making it eight but just failed to make a connection with a cross.
The game finished 7-0.

CUMNOR REACH THE SEMI-FINAL OF THE OXFORD MAIL CUP

Cumnor played Bloxham in the match of the quarter finals. Bloxham play an attacking game which usually produces lots of goals.
The weather is usually pretty wet in Bloxham and today was no different. Cumnor had a full squad to chose from.
Both sides attacked from the start but both defences were holding out well. A cross from Wrighty saw Bradley just heading wide. Bloxham were awarded a free kick just outside the box. Robbie set up the wall and saved the kick with good handling. Kieren had to be sharp to stop Bloxham breaking through the middle of the defence.
At the other end, another great run from Fraser, after a defence splitting pass by Bradley, saw his shot go just wide.
Suddenly Cumnor scored two great goals. Freddie raced on a through ball from Alex. He jostled with the Bloxham defender and moved into the penalty area. He appeared to be pushed out too wide. Freddie smashhed the ball into the top corner. A great goal!
Joe won the ball on the left and worked a nice move with Freddie. The ball was slipped to Bradley. He was 20 yards out. He took a couple of strides and fired a great shot into the corner. What a goal!
Bloxham pushed forward. Declan was very busy on the left. He made a couple of great challenges as Bloxham threatened. Shaun started the next move. He slipped the ball to Joe who raced down the left and his cross was met by Bradley. His shot just went passed.
The second half saw Cumnor defending as Bloxham pressed for a goal to get them back into the game. Tim made a couple of saves early on to keep the score at 2-0.
Adam was finding room out on the left. He linked up well with Declan and made a few openings. Cumnor put 5 in midfield to prevent any dangerous shots from distance.
With minutes to go Adam had a chance to make it 3 but his shot just went over.
The referee blew for full time.

BLOXHAM 0 CUMNOR MINORS 2

A great victory. Bloxham are starting to look like the old Bloxham-a very good side.
Never easy to win at Bloxham but it was a very solid performance. In the semi-final we play Didcot.

CUMNOR KNOCK OUT ELDON CELTIC IN THRILLER

Cumnor moved into the semi-final of the B&B Cup. In an end to end game Cumnor and Eldon served up an engrossing football match.
Eldon Celtic were on a long unbeaten run. They arrived in a confident mood.
Cumnor started well. Within minutes Luke had made it 1-0. A through ball from Shaun found Luke. He calmly slipped the ball into the net. Freddie and Bradley were stretching the Eldon defence. Fraser was finding a lot of joy up the right hand side. He made a great run after a pass from Joe. He made it to the byeline but the ball was blocked for a corner. Fraser took the corner and it was cleared . Declan collected the ball and set up Joe. He beat a couple of players and hit a great shot but the goalie saved well. Alex was growing in confidence and made a couple of important tackles. A couple more chances came their way but they were no taken.
Eldon were starting to pass the ball and causing lots of problems on the wings. Some nice one-twos were splitting the Cumnor defence.
A rare lapse of concentration saw the Eldon attacker sitting on the 6 yard box with no-one marking. The ball landed at his feet and he gave Robbie no chance. It was 1-1. Eldon Celtic grew in confidence and Cumnor were the happier to hear the half time whistle.
A half time team talk rejuvenated Cumnor. Wrighty and Robbie wanted more talking.
Cumnor attacked from the start. Bradley had a header just past the post. Robbie came on in midfield to stop the Eldon midfield playing.
It worked. Cumnor got a corner on the left. Fraser passed to Declan. He took a short corner to Declan. He fired in a great cross. It was met by Luke. He flicked it to Freddie. He calmly fired it into the net. It was 2-1.
Eldon immediately attacked. They were using the left side and Jordi had to make some great tackles. Eldon used the wing and a ball was smashed into the box but Wrighty cleared. Kieren was having one of his busier days and made a great header to clear the ball.
A free kick from 20 yards was punched away by Tim. He then made another great save with a splitting cross into the box.
The tension was high on the sidelines. With 4 minutes to go Freddie left the defence and calmly slipped the ball past the impressive Eldon Celtic goalie.
3-1. The game was over.
Unfortunately no-one told Eldon Celtic. They went on the offensive. A great move up the left saw a lovely cross into the box. It was met by the Eldon Celtic forward. It was 3-2.
Bradley received a knock. Adam came on for the last couple of minutes.
The last minutes seemed like an eternity.
At last the referee blew for full time.
What a game!
