CUMNOR GET BACK TO WINNING WAYS

Cumnor swept aside Blackbirds to keep the pressure on Wantage. Unfortunately, with Wantage winning at Newbury, it would take a miracle for them to slip up.
Cumnors started well and had a couple of early opportunities. Bradley had an early effort which just slipped past the post.
Luke and Shaun linked up well to release Fraser. He raced into the box and hit an unstoppable shot into the back of the net. It was soon 2-0 as Bradley left his defender and slipped the ball into the net.
At the other end, Robbie had to make a good save as the ball rattled about in the box. Kieren then made a great clearance.
Joe released Freddie with a great pass. He slipped the ball past the goalie but was brought down. It was a penalty. Wrighty stepped up to make it 3-0 with a great penalty.
Just before half-time, Luke made it 4 with a great strike.
In the second half, Blackbirds started to pressurise Cumnor. Alex was in great form and made some great tackles to stop Marcus. A pass back gave Blackbirds a direct free kick 10 yards out. Cumnor managed to keep the ball out and the ball was collected by Tim.
Declan was finding lots of room on the left. His next ball found Joe. He rounded the defender and hit a great shot into the back of the net. It was 5-0.

Cumnor are now gearing themselves for the B&B Cup Final. A return to form was great to see.
Two poor games saw our cup and league hopes disappear. Now we need to keep up the good form for the 17th April.

WANTAGE DENT CUMNOR'S TITLE HOPES

Cumnor were meeting Wantage in a top of the table clash. They talk about 6 pointers and it think it applied to the game today.
Jack Alexander had left Wantage to join Liverpool and Cumnor felt that this had weakened Wantage. If anything, Wantage looked more balanced and started the better side.
They had a couple of early chances but Robbie was in top form and made a couple of saves.
Cumnor started to come into the game. Declan and Joe linked well to release Freddie. He slipped past Robbie and his late challenge brought down Freddie. It was a penalty. Wrighty lined up for the penalty. Normally Wrighty will place the ball into the back of the net. This time it drifted over the bar. Hard luck.
Bradley set up Fraser on the right. He left his defender and crossed but his header went wide.
At the other end, Wantage in their next attack did everything but put the ball into the net. The ball was saved by Robbie three times, as it hit the bar and various other players, until it was cleared by Alex. Kieren made another great tackle to stop another attack.
Shaun started the next move. He passed to Joe who passed to Bradley but he was closed down very quickly.
At the end of the half, Robbie made a world class save from a great header from the Wantage attacker.
Half time whistle was blown.
Cumnor scored early in the second half. A wonder strike from Jordi from 25 yards left the goalie with no chance. It was 1-0.
Luke and Fraser linked up well. Fraser moved forward and hit a great shot which hit the bar.
Then two lapses in concentration saw Wantage draw level. A great header from Robbie gave Tim no chance. Then Tom White silenced the Cumnor fans with a great strike. It was 2-1.
Cumnor pushed for an equaliser. Luke had a great header just go wide. The referee blew for full time.

CUMNOR MINORS 1 WANTAGE 2

Well done Wantage. Cumnor had one of their quieter days. Wantage came out fighting and pressed Cumnor, especially in midfield.
Being in a successful side means that every game is tough. Even though we lost, it was still an exciting game and great to take part in.
Fortunately the games keep coming. We play Didcot in the cup next week. Another tough game.

SUPER CUMNOR MAKE B&B FINAL

Cumnor defeated Newport Pagnell Town FC 3-1 to make the final of the B&B Cup. In the final we play Windsor Royals. They beat us 2 years ago in the final. Bad memories as we lost 3 of our best players just before the final and had to play with players out of position. Now we have the best squad that Cumnor have ever had. A team with no weaknesses.
NPTFC arrived at the game with some impressive results. They knocked out Windsor Swifts in the last round.
Cumnor started on the attack and it was no surprise when Cumnor took the lead. Declan had passed the ball to Joe. His through ball was met by Bradley. His run was stopped and the ball drifted out for a corner. Fraser took the corner and Shaun rose above the defence to fire an unstoppable header into the back of the net. Cumnor kept the pressure up. Freddie had a shot well saved by the NPTFC goalie.Bradley came close but the goalie was quick of his line to block the shot. Luke came close with another fine shot.
NPTFC started to get into the game. Robbie had to be quick of his line to make a great clearance. Jordi had to make a great tackle to stop another attack.
Cumnor kept pressing but could not add to their lead.
The referee blew for half time.
The instructions for Cumnor at half time were not to sit back but to add to their lead.
Cumnor came out and attacked on all flanks. Bradley came close as his shot drifted past. Freddie had a shot just over the bar. Joe had a great effort just drift past.
The second had to come. Kieren broke up a NPTFC attack. He slipped the ball to Alex. He cleared to Bradley. He turned and released Freddie. He left the defender and made it 2-0.
NPTFC moved forward. The attacker had the ball with his back to the defender. The linesman flagged for a penalty to the bemusement of both sets of supporters. The NPTFC player hit the ball well but Tim made a great save. Then the linesman flagged again. Tim had moved off his line. It had to be retaken! Again looks of amazement. The NPTFC player made no mistake. It was 2-1.
Credit to Cumnor who carried on as before. Some great work from Fraser found Luke in space and he made it 3-1 with a great shot.
Robbie came on to strengthen the midfield. He made a great tackle and won the ball. He fired of a great pass to Fraser. He raced up the line and crossed but the goalie saved well from a Bradley shot.
Wrighty started to move forward and he created the next opening with a great free kick. Luke was first on the ball but fired over from 6 yards. Cumnor, tried, but could not add to their lead.
With seconds to go, Alex made a great clearance of the line.
The game finished 3-1.
A great game with two great sides. All the best to NPTFC for the rest of the season.

CUMNOR MINORS 3 NPTFC 1

A great display. A cup run which started all the way back in September. Our preliminary round fixture against the holders, Newbury, at their ground which we won 4-1. Even at that stage, the Newbury manager predicted that we would get go all the way.
With the news that Wantage had dropped points against Didcot made our smiles even wider.
Next week we play Wantage. What an exciting time ahead.
